Video zeezender boottrip augustus 1974

Op 3 augustus 1974 was Kurt Sellenthin een van de offshore radiofans die de Mi Amigo, de Norderney en de MEBO II bezochten. De tocht met de MS Fortuna werd georganiseerd door Hans Verbaan van FRC in Nederland. Ben Meijering heeft de video die Kurt hiervan maakte gedigitaliseerd en online gezet. De video is een regelrechte kopie van wat Kurt in 1974 filmde en bewerkte. Werner Tschoepe was toen ook aan boord van de MS Fortuna, waar hij Kurt voor het eerst ontmoette. Werner deelt hier enkele van zijn herinneringen aan deze periode en deze reis.

WERNER TSCHOEPES OFFSHORE MEMORIES
Let me (Werner) share some background on why Kurt and myself visited the Offshore Radio stations at the beginning of August, 1974. It was already foreseeable at the beginning of August 1974: On September 1, 1974, the "Strasbourg Convention" was to come into force in the Netherlands, which would make it a criminal offense to work, order advertising, supply supplies, etc. of the popular pirate radio stations broadcasting in "international waters" off Scheveningen. This meant that the economic basis for the offshore pop stations would disappear and consequently all offshore radiostations law-abiding stopped broadcasting on August 31, 1974, except for Radio Caroline/Radio Mi Amigo, which once again defied the law (like they did already before in the UK in 1967). Against this background, the weeks before September 1st, 1974 were the last opportunity to see the Offshore pop stations in action on the high seas and to say goodbye. Boat trips, organized by the European Free Radio Clubs, started from the Scheveningen harbor and led to Norderney (Radio Veronica), Mebo 2 (Radio Nordsee International) and Mi Amigo (Radio Mi Amigo/Radio Caroline). This film was made on Saturday, August 3rd, 1974. The trip was organized and accompanied by Hans Verbaan, to whom Werner lent out his transistor radio so that the sound of Radio Mi Amigo could be heard on the visitor boat, the MS Fortuna. Radio Mi Amigo also reported on this trip live on the air. During this trip, Werner met Kurt. Kurt invited Werner to join him on board the tender ship to the Mebo 2 three days later on Tuesday, August 6. Kurt also captured this Mebo 2 visit on film.
